U.S. Steel is restarting its second blast furnace at the Granite City Works facility in the St. Louis area.
"Steel remains a highly competitive and highly cyclical industry, but we are confident in our ability to safely and profitably operate the mill to meet 2026 demand," said David Burritt, president and CEO of U.S. Steel.
The company plans to hire roughly 400 new workers to operate the furnace.
