The U.S. Commerce Department is recommending a heavy tariff on sales of Canadian firm Bombardier's C Series jetliner.
The International Trade Commission arm of the Commerce Department recommended a 219.6 percent tariff on the delivery of each aircraft.
Boeing is suing Bombardier over claims that financial backing from the Canadian government allowed it to sell to Delta for "absurdly low prices."
"The U.S. values its relationships with Canada, but even our closest allies must play by the rules," Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in a statement. "The subsidization of goods by foreign governments is something that the Trump administration takes very seriously, and we will continue to evaluate and verify the accuracy of this preliminary determination."
