Members from both parties on the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee criticized a recently announced U.S. Department of Agriculture plan to shift jobs out of the Washington, D.C., area.
Minnesota’s Amy Klobuchar, the top Democrat on the panel, said USDA jobs should be located in Washington, D.C., so employees can more easily meet with legislators. North Dakota Republican John Hoeven said that while he's supportive of relocating employees, he wants the USDA to work with Congress on the plan.
The USDA last week announced it would relocate 2,600 of the department's 4,600 jobs in the Washington, D.C., area to five regional hubs, including one in Kansas City.
