U.S. sanctions against Russia take effect today, Reuters reports.
The economic penalties are tied to a nerve agent attack in Britain. Sergei Skripal, a former colonel in Russia’s GRU military intelligence service, and his 33-year-old daughter, Yulia, survived the attack.
Russia has denied involvement in the attack.
The sanctions slated to go into effect today terminate foreign assistance and some arms sales and financing to Russia, among other penalties.
