U.S. retail sales were down in May, according to the latest Commerce Department data.
The data shows a 0.9% decrease in sales at retail stores and restaurants in May. That compares with a 0.1% dip in April and a 1.5% increase in March.
When excluding sectors such as gas, cars and restaurants, spending on discretionary items rose by around 0.4%.
