The U.S. Treasury Department reported a record $738 billion budget deficit in April.
Officials with the department said the deficit in April was the first to reflect mass spending by the federal government in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Comparatively, the previous record budget deficit for any month was $235 billion in February.
