The Trump administration is placing fresh sanctions on Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela.
The sanctions, according to Vox, are designed to put pressure on President Nicolas Maduro to resign and transfer power to the U.S.-backed resistance leader, Juan Guaido.
Some worry the sanctions could backfire by angering Maduro and making him cling to power even more.
