U.S. nonfarm payrolls dropped by 92,000 jobs in February, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Analysts predicted a 50,000-job gain. The February figure compares with a downwardly revised January total of 126,000.
The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.4% in February.
