The report includes an overarching list of the best universities nationwide - which no local schools made - as well as lists for the best regional colleges and regional universities.
College of the Ozarks tied for No. 9 on a list of the Midwest's best regional colleges, a category U.S. News defines as schools with a focus on undergraduate education with less than half of degrees granted in liberal arts programs.
C of O, with an enrollment of 1,374, was noted for its work program allowing students to pay for tuition while attending the college.
Evangel tied for No. 53 on the list for Midwest regional colleges. With an undergraduate enrollment of 1,897 and 2012-13 tuition of $18,930, Evangel's most popular majors include business, management, marketing, education, communication, and philosophy and religious studies, according to the report.
Drury tied for No. 11 on the list of the best Midwest regional universities, a category defined as schools with several undergraduate programs, some master's programs and few doctoral programs.
The university, which has 1,618 students enrolled and 2012-13 tuition of $21,575, has 61.2 percent of its classes with fewer than 20 students, who are most interested in studying subjects such as business, management, marketing psychology, education and biological and biomedical sciences, according to U.S. News.
MSU tied for No. 60 on the list for the best regional universities in the Midwest. The only public institution on the list locally, MSU has an undergraduate enrollment of 17,187, and 2012-13 in-state tuition of $6,792 and out-of-state tuition of $13,138. The school has more than 100 bachelor's degrees and more than 40 master's degrees, including those in the fields of business, health and political science, the report said.
St. Louis-based Webster University, which operates a Springfield campus, moved up four spots to No. 24 on the list of the best regional universities.
