Participants at the recent U.S. National Coffee Association annual conference noted the theft of truckloads of green coffee beans is on the rise in the United States.
"There were dozens of thefts in the last year, something that would happen only rarely in the past," said Hartley Transportation's Todd Costley.
Truckloads of green coffee beans reportedly carry around 44,000 pounds, which is worth roughly $180,000.
Participants at the annual conference said gangs who disguise themselves as transportation companies have stolen the coffee beans and sold them to smaller roasters.
