US mulling sanctions on Venezuela's oil sector

Posted online
President Donald Trump's administration is considering slapping sanctions on Venezuela's oil sector, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The measures would be in response to Sunday's election of a constitutional super-body Trump's administration has labeled as a "sham" vote. Trump said Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro "dreams of becoming a dictator."

The sanctions are expected to block the sale of lighter U.S. crude that Venezuela mixes with its heavy crude and then exports. It would not affect Venezuelan oil shipments to the United States, according to Reuters.
