Claims for jobless benefits in the United States fell last week, according to the most recent Labor Department data.
For the week of Aug. 3, jobless claims were down by 17,000 to 233,000.
Continuing claims, referring to the number of people collecting unemployment benefits, rose by 6,000 during the week of July 27 to 1.88 million.
