US government issues $500K challenge for better face masks

The federal government's Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority issued a challenge to designers for "the next generation" of face masks.

The competition has $500,000 in prizes available.

Federal officials are seeking designs that would do away with common annoyances, such as skin irritation and fogging up of glasses.
