U.S. and global mergers and acquisitions were down to multiyear lows in the third quarter, according to data from Refinitiv.
In the United States, M&A activity fell to $246 billion. That's the lowest level since 2014.
Across the globe, M&A dropped to $729 billion, the lowest figure since 2016.
