The U.S. Department of Justice has filed suit against Uber in a case that alleges disability discrimination.
In the suit, the federal government alleges Uber violated federal law. Specifically, the lawsuit alleges drivers have routinely refused to serve riders with disabilities and that Uber has illegally charged cleaning fees for service animals and cancellation fees for riders who are denied service.
Uber officials disagreed with the allegations in a statement to Reuters, saying riders "deserve a safe, respectful and welcoming experience on Uber, full stop. We have a clear zero-tolerance policy for confirmed service denials."
