US employers announce 5-month low in job cuts

The number of announced layoffs fell to a five-month low in October, according to a new monthly survey.

United States employers announced planned cuts of 30,740 jobs in October, a 31 percent decrease from September, according to a study by global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

October's total was the second-lowest in 2016, trailing 30,157 pink slips in May.
