U.S. economy bounces back sharply

Looks like that long winter of consumer discontent melted away into a spring of renewed optimism for the economy.
 
CNNMoney reports that data released Wednesday indicate the U.S. economy surged 4 percent in the second quarter, a full percentage point higher than economists predicted.
 
The increase is attributed to robust consumer spending on durable goods such as autos and home furnishings and business spending on technology and equipment. Exports also increased in the second quarter, the report states.
