US creates hurdles for $47B merger

U.S. antitrust authorities created hurdles for Linde AG and Praxair Inc.'s proposed $47 billion merger.

The Federal Trade Commission is calling on the industrial gases companies to sell more assets before the deal can be approved.

Officials with Munich-based Linde said such sales would lead to a “higher probability” that disposals will exceed a self-imposed limit.
