The United States will rise above Saudi Arabia and Russia as the world's top oil producer by 2016, according to a report by the International Energy Agency released on Tuesday.
By 2020, the Middle East will become the top producer once more, due to depletion of major oil fields in Texas and North Dakota, Reuters reports.
The IEA said oil prices will continue to rise and spur development of unconventional resources such as oil sands in Canada, deepwater production in Brazil and natural gas liquids.
After 2020, India is forecast to become the largest single source of global oil demand growth. China is set to become the largest consumer of oil, but for now, the U.S. has the title.
