U.S. could be on cusp of smart toilet revolution

Posted online
Smart toilets are all the rage in Japan and one manufacturer is betting Americans will embrace the high-tech porcelain thrones as much as smartphones.

Japan's Lixil Corp. purchased American Standard Brands last year and is adding "integrated bidets" to the company's lineup.

According to a Mashable report, smart toilets can sync with a user's smartphone via Bluetooth and even play their favorite tunes while doing their business on the bowl. The toilets can now be found in 75 percent of Japanese homes.

The American Standard version activates when a user sits down, has a heated seat, soft nightlight around the bowl and closes and flushes automatically when a user stands.

American Standard aims to sell $50 million of its smart toilets through 2018, and is planing to launch a $3 million to $5 million ad campaign to promote the bidet-equipped models, Mashable reports.
