U.S. consumer confidence pulls back from multiyear high

What goes up, must come down. Sometimes, with a crashing thud.
 
After logging a record high of 103.8 in January - revised up from the original 102.9, which itself was the highest since 2009 - the Conference Board's index of consumer confidence plummeted to 96.4 in February, Reuters reports.
 
The February index, the lowest since September, was even worse than economists' predictions of 99.6.
