U.S. Rep. Katie Hill, D-California, resigned over allegations she had an affair with a Capitol Hill aide.
"I believe it is the best thing for my constituents, my community and our country," said Hill, who denies the claim involving a male aide.
Days earlier, the House of Representatives Ethics Committee began investigating the allegations.
Hill has separately acknowledged a relationship with a female campaign staff member.
