U.S. Cellular invests $37M in Mo. in 2014

Chicago-based U.S. Cellular Corp. (NYSE: USM) invested $37.1 million in Missouri last year, the company announced.

The wireless carrier’s investment included 4G long-term evolution service in Springfield and other southwest Missouri communities, including Nixa, Republic, Willard, Ozark and Marshfield, which wrapped up in late 2014. According to a news release, funding also went toward upgrading the company’s existing network, as well as $848,279 going toward new stores and facility upgrades in the state.

In Springfield, U.S. Cellular opened its second corporate-owned store in October at Battlefield Mall. The company opened its first store in late 2012 at 3825 S. Glenstone Ave., according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

USM shares were trading at $38.53 as of 9:47 a.m., compared to a 52-week range of $31.78 to $43.50.
