US candymakers agree to reduce calories

Five major chocolate and candy companies yesterday announced a joint commitment to reduce calories.

Companies including Mars Chocolate North America, Nestle USA, WM Wrigley Jr. Co. and Lindt & Spruengli agreed to wind down calories in individually wrapped products sold in the United States to less than 200 calories.

The agreement comprises half of the companies' inventories.
