The U.S. government is urging its foreign allies to stop doing business with China's Huawei Technologies Co., people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.
U.S. officials are saying Huawei equipment can increase the risk of cyberattacks and allow Chinese officials to spy on communications.
"We engage with countries around the world about our concerns regarding cyberthreats in telecommunications infrastructure," an unnamed U.S. official told The Wall Street Journal. "As they're looking to move to 5G, we remind them of those concerns. There are additional complexities to 5G networks that make them more vulnerable to cyberattacks."
