The operator of defunct bitcoin exchange BitFunder was arrested Wednesday on federal charges.
Jon Montroll is accused of lying to U.S. securities regulators to avoid responsibility for the theft of virtual currency on his platform now worth nearly $70 million.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission also filed suit against Montroll for allegedly running an unregistered securities exchange that defrauded its users.
