The 10 largest U.S. airlines issued a warning that the impending switch-on of 5G mobile phone services will cause "major disruption" to flights, BBC News reports.
The 5G service from Verizon and AT&T could disrupt the navigation systems of planes in what airline officials are calling a "completely avoidable economic calamity."
"Immediate intervention is needed to avoid significant operational disruption to air passengers, shippers, supply chain and delivery of needed medical supplies," airline executives said in a letter sent to U.S. aviation authorities.
The 5G service is slated to be turned on today.
