US airlines sign up for commercial flights to Cuba

Posted online
Seeking government clearance, major U.S. airlines submitted applications this week for commercial flights to Cuba.

American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and Jet Blue are among the carriers seeking the 20 daily round-trip flights to Havana and 10 daily round trip flights to other Cuban cities with international airports, according to CNNMoney.

Although the two countries agreed to resume commercial flights last year, tourists are still not allowed to fly to Cuba under the U.S. embargo. Would-be visitors must meet specific criteria including performing government and humanitarian work or family visits in order to travel.
