University of Missouri research center closes

The University of Missouri System closed a $10 million medical research institute.

The decision, part of efforts to cut systemwide costs, affects 17 full- and part-time employees through layoffs and contract nonrenewals.

The Columbia facility closed June 30 because of significant overhead and lack of grant funding in recent years.
