University of Missouri names next chancellor

The University of Missouri today is expected to introduce its next chancellor, R. Bowen Loftin.

Loftin is credited with steering Texas A&M athletics out of the Big 12 and into the Southeastern Conference. Loftin, 64, announced in July he was stepping down as president at Texas A&M to take a teaching position in the engineering school, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Loftin succeeds Brady Deaton, who retired from Mizzou last month after holding the top job since 2004.
