The University of Iowa is cutting four varsity sports programs as the COVID-19 pandemic impacts its finances.
The sports to be discontinued after the 2020-21 academic year are men's gymnastics, men’s tennis, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.
The school is expecting a budget shortfall this fiscal year of up to $75 million. Officials say there would be $100 million in lost revenue in the 2020-21 academic year without football. The football program was canceled for the fall season due to the pandemic.
