The University of Florida banned its "Gator Bait" fight song over "horrific historic racist imagery associated with the phrase," school President Kent Fuchs said.
Fuchs also said two task forces would be created to explore race relations associated with the college and pledged to remove Confederate monuments on campus.
Historical reports point to references in the early 20th century in which black children were described as being used as bait for alligators.
