UnitedHealth to buy Surgical Care Affiliates for $2.3B

UnitedHealth Group's Optum unit penned a $2.3 billion deal to buy Surgical Care Affiliates.

Surgical Care Affiliates serves some 1 million patients per year in over 30 states. It also operates 205 surgical facilities, including ambulatory surgery centers.

Optum officials expect the buyout to create a comprehensive ambulatory care services platform.
