UnitedHealth posts 56% earnings increase

UnitedHealth's earnings rose 56 percent in the fourth quarter, according to The Associated Press.

The company cited growth in its core health insurance business as well as gains from its Optum business segment.

Overall, Minnetonka, Minnesota-based UnitedHealth posted $1.9 billion in fourth-quarter earnings. Revenue rose 9 percent to $47.5 billion.
