United Way of the Ozarks announced Thursday that it is aiming to raise $3,516,000 during its 2008 campaign.

The campaign kicked off Aug. 28 at Hammons Field with 350 attendees, according to a news release. The effort will run through Nov. 6.

Last year, the organization’s campaign goal was $3.67 million, but economic conditions resulted in $3.44 million in total funds raised, the release said.

The funds are allocated for programs at health and human service agencies in southwest Missouri. The organization also provides grants to regional nonprofit organizations and sponsors community coalitions.

Pacesetter companies in this year’s campaign are: ACR Nally Marketing Group, Associated Electric Cooperative, Associated Wholesale Grocers, BancorpSouth, Cargill, City Utilities of Springfield, U.S. Bank, Commerce Bank, Empire Bank, Great Southern Bank, Ollson & Associates, Ozarks Technical Community College, PJC Insurance and SMC Packaging.
