United Way recommends $366K for nonprofits

Posted online
With a focus on programs to improve access to health care, promote healthy lifestyles and decrease risky and unhealthy behaviors, the Community Investment Health Council of United Way of the Ozarks earlier this week announced $365,652 in funding recommendations for three southwest Missouri agencies.

The recommendations would provide a 24-month funding cycle for 2013 and 2014 for partner agencies The Kitchen Clinic, Ozarks Counseling Center and the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southwest Missouri, according to a United Way news release.

Specific uses for the funding:
  • NAMI –Funds will be used for education, outreach and advocacy, and the organization’s Hope Center, to provide support and education to 3,000 individuals who have mental illness diagnoses.
  • The Kitchen Clinic – Money will be used as gap funding for prescription medications for 2,100 uninsured individuals who otherwise would have to go without medical prescriptions.
  • Ozarks Counseling Center – Funds will support free or sliding-scale-fee based treatment for more than 2,100 individuals who have mental health needs.
