The education council of United Way of the Ozarks yesterday submitted to the board a recommendation of $535,000 to support children's programs.
The funding recommendation would support eight programs for a 24-month period 2014-15, according to a news release.
The funding requests:
- Boys & Girls Town of Missouri for Ozarks Family Resource Center, $101,420 to provide shelter for children age 18 and younger who have been removed from unsafe situations due to abuse, neglect or homelessness;
- Court Appointed Special Advocates, $80,800 to protect the interests of children in the foster care system;
- Kids First, $74,622 for a health services program to help impoverished children in the Springfield community receive needed medical and dental care, and to provide nursery services for high school students while earning their diplomas;
- Female Leaders in Philanthropy, $128,000 for Ozarks Food Harvest's backpack program that provides weekend meals for at-risk elementary school children, and $10,000 to help independently living high school seniors graduate;
- Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, $80,000 to help children up to age 5 learn reading skills in preparation for kindergarten; and
- Every Child Fund, $60,000 to address child abuse and neglect, early childhood education and children in poverty.
