United Airlines announced it would furlough over 16,000 U.S. employees.
“United cannot continue with staffing levels that significantly exceed the schedule we fly," officials said, pointing to the coronavirus pandemic's impact on travel. "Sadly, we don’t expect demand to return to anything resembling normal until there is a widely available treatment or vaccine."
The furloughs impact more than 12,000 employees in airport operations, flight operations and inflight services.
