United Airlines beats quarterly expectations

United Continental Holdings Inc. beat analysts' expectations for the second quarter.

That's despite consumer outrage over an April incident in which a paying passenger was dragged off a United flight.

Adjusted adjusted earnings per share came to $2.75, above projections of $2.67.

Revenue rose 6.4 percent from a year earlier to $10 billion. That's above analysts' forecasts of $9.97 billion.
