United Airlines affiliate United Express added flights at Joplin Regional Airport.
The company started flights Tuesday to airport hubs in Chicago, Denver and Houston. Joplin has not had airline service to three hubs in 40 years, according to Steve Stockam, the airport's manager.
A ceremony was held yesterday that included the traditional water cannon salute of the new airline as the first flight of the day landed.
