Under Armour offers Durant largest sponsorship in company history

Posted online
ESPN reports Under Armour is courting Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant with a company record $265 million to $285 million sponsorship deal over 10 years. The offer includes stock and other incentives, including a community center built in his mother’s name.

Durant is currently signed with Nike, which has the right to match Under Armour’s offer. According to ESPN sources, Nike’s last offer is for a guaranteed $20 million a year. Based on conditions in his Nike contract, Durant can still choose the swoosh brand if it doesn't match the offer, but he can't legally choose Under Armour if Nike does match.

If Under Armour wins the bidding war, ESPN said it would be the largest sponsorship deal the company has ever committed to. The average of $26.5 million to $28.5 million a year means Under Armour would be devoting nearly 10 percent of its current annual marketing budget on Durant.
