The United Nations Human Rights Council and its commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, are calling on global reparations to "make amends" for racism against people of African descent.
The council began a study into the matter after the killing of George Floyd by a white police officer in 2020.
The report, based on discussions with more than 300 experts and people of African descent, found police use of racial profiling and excessive force is systemic in North America, Europe and Latin America. Racism is the biggest problem in countries that have been associated with the slave trade, according to the report.
