UN Ambassador Danforth talks in Springfield

Posted online
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former U.S. Sen. John C. Danforth is the featured speaker at The Rotary Clubs of Springfield’s annual all-club membership meeting this afternoon.

The meeting is at noon at the Oasis Convention Center, 2550 N. Glenstone Ave. Only Rotary members and invited guests may attend, according to a Rotary news release.

After the luncheon, Danforth will participate in a book-signing 1:15–1:30 p.m. for his 2006 book, “Faith and Politics: How the Moral Values Debate Divides America and How to Move Forward Together.”

While the Rotary event is closed to the public, Danforth will participate in a public discussion later today at Drury University’s Stone Chapel, at the corner of Central Street and Benton Avenue. The 3 p.m. visit is part of the W. Curtis Strube Ethics in Business and Lyceum Series. Tickets are free but must be obtained in advance; call the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association at (417) 831-2783 to attend.

Danforth retired from the Senate in 1995 and has since become an author, a partner in an international law firm and a UN ambassador, according to a Drury news release.
