UK to introduce soda tax in 2018

A new tax on the makers of sugary drinks will go into effect in the United Kingdom in two years in an effort to prevent childhood obesity.

The tax expected to raise more than $700 million would go toward funding school sports.

Government documents indicate the tax rate could be equivalent to 34 cents per liter, depending on the sugar content.
