Uber's board voted to accept an investment of up to $1.25 billion from Japanese tech investor SoftBank.
The board also passed a resolution to go public by 2019 and increase its number of seats to 17 from 11.
Board member and former CEO Travis Kalanick said the SoftBank investment will aide the company as it moves forward on an initial public offering.
