Uber, Lyft and other ride-hailing companies were the victors at the polls in California yesterday.
Voters gave approval for a measure that exempts gig workers from state labor laws, meaning drivers for the companies can continue to be classified as independent contractors.
Should the measure have failed, gig companies would have had to reclassify and pay contract workers like employees with benefits including overtime and sick leave.
