Uber bets on AI with acquisition, new lab

Uber is betting on artificial intelligence via an acquisition and a new lab.

Gary Marcus and Zoubin Ghahramani are joining Uber through an acquisition of their startup, Geometric Intelligence. They'll head up Uber’s new in-house research arm on artificial intelligence, which the ride-hailing company unveiled on Monday.

The lab will be tasked with finding ways to build a fleet of self-driving vehicles, along with solving other technological challenges through machine learning.
