Uber attracts late night passengers in St. Louis debut

Posted online
Uber logged roughly 5,000 passengers in its St. Louis debut after launching ride service UberX on Sept. 18 against the wishes of the St. Louis Metropolitan Taxi Commission.

The same day the commission voted to allow the San Francisco-based company’s services under the condition drivers be fingerprinted for criminal background checks, Uber ignored the requirement and filed a lawsuit against the commission, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

According to Uber, more than 40 percent of the rides hailed by users through Sept. 20 were logged between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. Areas where the app was used the most include downtown around Washington Avenue, the historic Soulard neighborhood and the Central West End.
