Posted online
Springdale, Ark.-based Tyson Foods Inc. today donated roughly 40,000 pounds of chicken to Ozarks Food Harvest.

The donation supports the sixth annual McDonald's Cans for Coffee food drive. The Oct. 21-Nov. 10 campaign, at 63 restaurants in 41 Ozarks communities, allows residents to donate a nonperishable food item in exchange for a coffee drink, according to a news release.

Since 2000, Tyson has donated more than 93 million pounds of protein-rich foods to nonprofits participating in hunger-relief efforts. Ozarks Food Harvest has said food items high in protein are the least donated to to food banks.

Ozarks Food Harvest distributes some 800,000 meals a month to more than 200 nonprofits. It provides approximately 10 million meals annually to 170,000 individuals.
