Tyson discloses SEC probe over chicken pricing

Tyson Foods yesterday disclosed a federal investigation sparked by private lawsuits that accuse the company and others of manipulating chicken prices.

On Jan. 20, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission served Tyson Foods a subpoena.

Springdale, Arkansas-based Tyson, the largest producer of meat in the United States, is cooperating with the SEC but also has moved to dismiss the lawsuits. The suits accuse Tyson and over 20 other chicken producers, including Koch Foods, Pilgrim's Pride, Perdue Farms and Sanderson Farms, of manipulating the market to keep prices artificially high.
